Tips
On Choosing Snowboarding Gloves
When it comes to snowboarding the term fits like a glove takes
on a whole new meaning. Not only do you want your gloves to keep
your hands warm, you want them to fit “like a glove,”
be durable, and give you lots of finger movement. Remember you'll
be adjusting your binding, your goggles, and what ever else you
need to do. You'll want to be able to complete these tasks
without having to take your gloves off.
Now that said, if your hands tend to get cold really quickly, try
mittens rather than gloves. Hands get cold faster in a glove than
they do in a mitten however remember you will loose dexterity with
a mitten.
Your glove should overlap with your jacket cuff. Whether it goes
over the cuff or under the cuff is entirely up to you. But you want
to make sure that the snow can't get between the two. Snow
has a remarkable way of traveling up hill, up your arm. And there's
nothing quite as chilling as the feel of that snow melting down
the inside of your arm.
The shell, which is the exterior of the glove should be a lightweight
material and it should be waterproof. Most gloves can also be sprayed
to give them an additional waterproof coating.
The liner, which is the portion of the glove that's against
your skin, should be warm and provide another layer of protection.
Gore-tex is a common material for liners of not just gloves but
other sportswear. The warmer and lighter the liner the better. However
you also need to watch so that your hands don't become overheated
and start sweating.
Besides Gore-tex, fleece both fixed and stretched, and microfiber
are all used and all good choices. You'll have to try all
of them to decide which you like the best.
If you are planning to use a tow rope allot or you are planning
to spend allot of time in the park, then you'll want to purchased
gloves that have a reinforced palm. Cheap gloves just won't
hold up to the torture. Palm gripping can be made from various leathers
or synthetics. If you are looking for the best palm grip choose
a glove with a silicon palm grip.
You'll also want to make sure the liners come out of your
gloves because at the end of the day you'll want to remove
them and let them dry out. Otherwise the next time you go to use
them you'll be putting your hands into damp gloves. Yuck!
