More Tips On Snowboard Jacket

One other thing to watch for is taped seams. This applies to all your outer gear. When a garment is sewn together the needles leave tiny holes. Believe it or not water and wind can actually get through these holes. To eliminate this problem you should buy a jacket with taped or welded seams. Some jackets have only the main seams taped while others have all seams taped or welded. This is a personal preference but normally a jacket that has welded seams will fit better than a jacket with taped seams.

You also need to pay attention to the insulation of the jacket. How much insulation you need depends largely on where you will be snowboarding. You have plenty of choices. Goose down is a great choice if you'll be snowboarding in cold climates. While microfleece or Thermocore a perfect a milder climate.

You jacket should also have wrist cuffs, chest zips, and pit zips. The wrist cuffs will keep the snow from getting in your sleeve. The pit zips allow you to open up the area under the armpit for ventilation, and the chest zips does the same thing except the opening is on the chest.

A powder skirt is also important. Don't worry guys this isn't some frilly girly thing. Rather the powder skirt is a mesh piece sown into the bottom of the jacket. When you zip it up it prevents snow from flying up inside your jacket. It sure beats the heck out of the chill of cold snow up your back.

You can buy jackets with or without a hood. It's your choice. Some use the hood in place of a beanie while others hate a hooded jacket. Some hoods are removeable, others fold into the collar. My only hood advice is this: If you plan to board in the North, lets say Alaska or Northern BC you'd better make sure you've got a really good hood.

Pockets are another personal choice. Some jackets have inside pockets to go with the outside pockets. Some use Velcro to close the pocket, others use zippers. What's most important is the accessibility of the pockets and that they close tightly.

Tight closing pockets are essential otherwise you may find your keys or cell phone have disappeared somewhere down the mountain and good luck trying to find them. It doesn't take that much of a bump for things to start jumping out of pockets.

Once you've narrowed down the features you want your jacket to have all that's left is to choose your color and style. Try on lots of jackets before making your final choice. Remember you can wear your jacket off the slope too. Check the warranties and once you've made your purchase make sure you store the receipt someplace safe incase you need it for the warranty.
