History Of Snowboarding

Have you ever wondered how snowboarding came to be? Well that's easy! In 1965 Sherman Poppen built what would become known as the first snowboard. It started by Poppen binding a couple of skis together so his daughter could surf down a snowy hill. And the rest is history. You know what Snow + Surfer equals? Well Snurfer of course.

Since that time three other individual have been credited with the refining of the snowboard. Jake Burton, Tom Sims, and Dimitrije Milovich all played an important role in designing the high tech polyethylene and fiberglass boards.

It's totally amazing where snowboarding has gone in just 40 years. From two skis bound together to a recognized Olympic sport. Wow! How many other sports can claim such a short jump to fame?

It's estimated that about 30% of all people participating in winter sports have tried or are involved in snowboarding. You gotta wonder where that number's going to go in the next 40 years when the rest of the planet figures out what they've been missing.
